Blue Cash Preferred® Card from American Express: how does it work?

If you have a 700+ credit score and want the prestige of owning an Amex card, the Blue Cash Preferred® Card from American Express is a solid alternative for your wallet.

Amex even allows you to pre-qualify for it with only a soft pull. That means pre-qualification won’t impact your current score.

If approved, you have the chance to get $350 in statement credit after meeting the minimum spending requirements ($3,000) within the first six months from account opening. Then, you’ll start to earn rewards on every purchase you make.

If you spend a lot at supermarkets, you’ll get 6% back up to $6,000 a year (after that, 1%). The same amount goes to select U.S. streaming subscriptions to keep you entertained at home.

To help you move around, the card offers 3% back in transit expenses as well as purchases at U.S. gas stations. Finally, you’ll also get 1% with every other purchase.

The Blue Cash Preferred Card also offers an introductory APR period on purchases and balance transfers for 12 months.

After that, you’ll get a standard variable APR between 16.24% and 27.24%.
