Bank of America® Customized Cash Rewards for Students: how does it work?

The Bank of America Customized Cash Rewards for Students credit card is a solid choice for students looking to build credit and earn cash back rewards.

With no annual fee, the card offers a welcome bonus of $200 cash rewards after spending $1,000 within the first 90 days of opening the account.

The card also earns 3% cash back in a category of the cardholder’s choice and 2% at grocery stores and wholesale clubs.

Further, bonus earning is limited to the first $2,500 in combined spending each quarter. The card also earns unlimited 1% cash back on all other purchases.

Also, the 3% category options include gas, online shopping, dining, travel, drug stores, and home improvement/furnishings.

Bank of America® Customized Cash Rewards for Students also offers a 0% introductory APR for 18 billing cycles on purchases and balance transfers, but a 3% fee applies to all balance transfers.

The card also offers a FICO score for free within Online Banking or the Mobile Banking app. When handled responsibly, the card can help build a credit history, which could be helpful when looking for an apartment, a car loan, and even a job.

However, it has a high penalty APR and late fee and a high to very high standard APR, depending on the credit score.

Additionally, the card charges a 3% foreign transaction fee, so it is not a good option for international purchases.
