Eligibility criteria
There is no option to pre-qualify and avoid a credit check. However, Earnest tells you exactly which are the eligibility requirements so that you won’t apply if you don’t fit them.
- The co-signer must be at least 18 years old (or at the age of majority in their state)
- Both primary and co-signer have to live in a state covered by Earnest loans (which excludes Nevada)
- Primary and co-signer must be U.S citizens
- The student must be pursuing a Graduate or Bachelor’s degree
- The minimum amount is $1,000
- Minimum 650 FICO credit score for co-signer, with at least 3 years of credit history and no bankruptcy
- Co-signer minimum income of $35,000 per year
- Has an emergency fund, and your income overcomes your expenses
As you can see, there are many eligibility requirements, but it is fairly possible to fit all of them.
