Delta SkyMiles® Platinum American Express Card: how does it work?

The Delta SkyMiles Platinum American Express Card is a great option for frequent Delta travelers. If you are looking to earn Medallion Qualification Miles (MQMs) for elite status, this card is for you. 

The card has an annual companion certificate for a domestic flight, priority boarding and a free checked bag when flying with Delta. 

However, some tickets issued in Europe may have booking fees and the standard APR is high. The card has a $250 annual fee. 

Cardholders earn 10,000 MQMs for every $25,000 spent on the card. Plus, a new cardholder can earn 50,000 bonus miles and 5,000 MQMs after spending $3,000 in the first 6 months.

Each year the card is renewed, cardholders receive a companion certificate for a complimentary main cabin ticket for a companion. Watch for taxes and fees as they may apply. 

The card earns 3 miles on Delta and hotel purchases, 2 miles at restaurants and 1 mile per dollar on other purchases. 

Cardholders receive a fee credit for Global Entry or TSA PreCheck. You will also get exclusive Delta Sky Club access for $39 per visit. The card has no foreign transaction fees.
