A digital wallet will turn your cellphone into your ultimate paying device. But your phone has to be charged and turned on for this to happen.

It is simple. You’ll have to download your mobile app of choice that has this function. There are many apps for Android and for iOs. Some examples of digital wallet apps are Google Wallet, Apple Pay, Samsung Pay, Venmo, etc.

A digital wallet mobile app will take advantage of the functions your cellphone already has, like the camera, the wireless connection, the Magnetic Field Transmission (MFT), and the Near Field Communication (NFC) systems.

All you have to do is set up your credit card, debit card, or bank account in your app, and you can use it to make payments through your phone. You don’t need to carry your wallet around.

But remember that even if almost every store has a device to accept contactless payment, they’re not obligated to have it. To avoid embarrassing situations, you’d better check if this payment method is available before consuming any product from the store, in case you don’t have your physical wallet.

Is it safe to use a digital wallet?

Many people get suspicious about using a digital wallet. It feels like it would be easier to steal your money from it than it would be to steal from your physical wallet. But this is not accurate, and we’ll tell you how.

Your smartphone has many ways to keep your data safe. But it won’t work if you don’t set a password and even a two-steps-verification to access it. You can even set your fingerprint so only you can see what’s inside your phone.

Hackers have been cloning credit cards since they were invented. It’s not like your physical card is a guarantee to keep your money safe. But it is already safer than carrying cash in your pockets.

There are many ways to identify fraud on your bank account or credit cards. Make sure to have a good antivirus on your cellphone too, and never share your passwords.

Bank of America does not have a specific mobile app to set up a digital wallet. But you can use your Bank of America card in your digital wallet of choice. That’s how you’ll do it:

  1. Download your digital wallet

It is essential to download your digital wallet from a reliable source. Make sure that the app you’re downloading is legit. Otherwise, you can give your bank information to someone else. Make sure to pick the link on official websites or one that has been verified at your smartphone app store.

  1. Open your Bank of America mobile banking app to set your card

Inside your mobile banking app, you can set your card to use on your digital wallets. This is the step-by-step:

  • Open your Bank of America mobile bank, log in and open the menu
  • There, you’ll find an option to “manage debit/credit card”
  • It will open a menu with all of your cards. Find the one you’d like to add to a digital wallet
  • You’ll see a list of your digital wallets. Select the one you’d like to add your BofA card to
  • For security reasons, you’ll be requested to tap a code that you’ll get by calling a channel. Verify your code to complete the process.

And that’s it. You can select this card as default on your digital wallet if you want to. Now your Bank of America card is ready to be used.

How do I use my Bank of America digital wallet once it’s set up?

As you can see, it is not that complicated to add your card to your digital wallet. Now that you’ve done it, there are two ways to use it:

  • Online and in-app: Many online stores already accept digital wallets. Just look for this option when you’re finishing your purchase to select your form of payment.
  • In-stores: Ask your favorite store if they accept digital wallets, or look for a sign that tells you if the establishment is equipped with a contactless machine
