Absa Student Credit Card: how does it work?

The Absa Student Credit Card is a great opportunity for students in South Africa to build a solid credit score.

To be eligible, a student must be enrolled in a full-time program at one of the following instututions: a South African university, a FET college, a university of technology, or a private tertiary institution. 

They must also receive a minimum monthly allowance of R800.00. The card offers 57 days of interest-free credit on qualifying purchases. It charges no monthly account fee or monthly credit facility fee. 

Cardholders also get automatic basic travel insurance of R1,000,000.00 and lost card protection. The card features contactless technology, a free notifyMe service, and fixed monthly outstanding debt repayments. 

However, it does not come with garage card access or a credit life plan.

You must also provide a South African ID book or Smart card, proof of income, and be registered at a SAQA approved institution.
