The points system for the Chase Sapphire Preferred credit card works for a number of spending categories. It is an excellent rewards program.
On the one hand, this gives you a wide variety of places you can use your card and be rewarded for it. On the other, this can make it complicated to manage.
Points are calculated per dollar spent. You get 5 points for every dollar spent on travel you purchase through the Chase Ultimate Rewards program. You also get 3 points for every dollar you spend on dining, eligible delivery services, and takeout.
Besides these more traditional spending categories, the card offers 3 points on select streaming services and online grocery purchases in select merchants.
It also offers 2 points on travel not purchased through Chase Ultimate Rewards and 1 point on all other purchases.
